I haven’t followed NASCAR in over a decade, in fact I delight in making fun of NASCAR these days, but it’s great to hear that Ryan Newman is awake and talking. That was brutal crash.

I’ll await more details... awake and speaking omits some important info. That said, his condition is immeasurably greater than what I thought it would be after seeing a replay of the accident.

I’m right there with you. It’s easy to poke fun at what nascar has become, but it’s never good to see one of the drivers seriously injured. That’s good that we don’t see this too often, a testament to how safe they have made autosports. I still remember the day Earnhardt died and I think it was waltrip that made the comments about losing the sports compass or something along those lines. But he mentioned how we like to see the drivers walk away from the wrecks, and we have come to expect it.... something along those lines. Glad to hear it’s going in the right direction for Newman. And I kind of like the way they are in a sort of media blackout about it. Let the family have some time to themselves to deal with all this.

The relative media blackout reminds me of Robbie Wicken's accident, which worries me as well.
